Onions are a must-have ingredient in most dishes, but they can be a little bit troublesome to prepare. No sooner have you cut into one of the pesky veggies and the tears start. It's all down to science you see, when an onion's cut, it releases enzymes form its broken cells, these react with one another to form a vapour which as it evaporates, irritates our eyes making us cry. Just two methods have been proved effective in preventing onion tears, wearing goggles or contact lenses. If you don't wear contacts, then these are just the job for you!
